Along with other beautiful European cities such as London, Paris, and Barcelona, Rome is one of the most desired European cities to travel to, in fact, it is the third most-visited tourist destination in the European Union. Located on the western coast of central Italy, Rome is the capital and largest city of Italy, with a population of about 2.7 million residents in the municipality. The city is situated in the Lazio region of central Italy on the Tiber river. Rome has a rich history that dates back to over two and a half thousand years ago. The city enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate with summer temperatures reaching about 80? and winter temperatures reaching about 55?. Like most of Italy, Rome is predominantly Roman Catholic and is home to the Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica.
Although visitors can enjoy the numerous dining, shopping, and entertainment opportunities that Rome has to offer, many people also travel to rome to explore the city’s unique architecture characterized by various periods including ancient Rome, medieval, renaissance, baroque, neoclassicism, and fascist. Rome is also home to a number of beautiful parks and gardens such as Villa Borghese, Villa Ada, and Villa Doria Pamphili. Some of the many popular sites in Rome include the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Vatican City, and Roman Forum.
